Comparison

AI tools for TIA Portal compared: who writes LAD, who tests, who runs offline

Eight ways to put a language model next to a TIA Portal project, from the Siemens agent to open-source MCP servers. One table for what each tool does in the project, one for how you pay and how you connect your own AI.

Who wrote this

We build one of these tools. Every row links to the product's own public page, checked on 2026-10-02.

Where a vendor does not say something clearly on its own pages, the cell says "Not stated". That means we could not find it, not that the feature is missing. If you make one of these products and a cell is wrong, write to us and we will correct it.

AI, your own agent and price

The last column but one is about using the tool from an agent you already run, such as Claude Code or Codex. Most MCP servers give that agent raw tools: list blocks, import XML, compile. Coilmind takes the whole task and does the TIA part itself.

Which one fits

Each of these tools is built for a different job. Pick by the work you do most.

  • ›You want official Siemens support, hardware and network configuration, SINAMICS drives or ECAD import: the Eigen Engineering Agent. None of the others document drive or PROFINET work.
  • ›Your projects are on V15 or V16: AnyAutomation Studio documents V15 to V21, the widest range here.
  • ›You want Git, CI/CD pipelines and test reports around the TIA project: T-IA Connect and AnyAutomation Studio both document version control and CI.
  • ›You also work in Rockwell Studio 5000 or AutomationDirect: PLC Copilot documents Siemens, Rockwell and AutomationDirect in one desktop app. For CODESYS, AnyAutomation Studio and T-IA Connect both document support.
  • ›You mostly need to understand and document inherited code: PLC Copilot documents control narratives, I/O lists and FAT/SAT procedures exported as PDF.
  • ›You want the largest raw tool surface for your own agent: T-IA Connect lists 393 MCP tools. For a free start, TiaCommander (free beta) and TiaOpen MCP (MIT licence) are on GitHub.
  • ›You write LAD as well as SCL, want it tested on PLCSIM Advanced, pay monthly, work on V17 or V18, or need a local model on site: Coilmind. AI is included from €29 a month and it also builds WinCC Unified screens.

Common questions

Which AI tools for TIA Portal write LAD and not only SCL?

By their own pages: the Eigen Engineering Agent, AnyAutomation Studio, T-IA Connect, PLC Copilot, TiaCommander, TiaOpen MCP and Coilmind. How each one does it differs a lot, from generating whole networks to building a block from a JSON description, so try it on a block you know before you rely on it.

Which ones work offline with a local model?

AnyAutomation Studio and T-IA Connect document local models through Ollama and similar servers. PLC Copilot offers an offline mode on its Enterprise plan. Coilmind runs a local model through Ollama on every plan, with a 14-day offline window before the licence needs a short refresh.

The MCP servers run locally, but whether the model is local depends on the client you connect to them.

Can I use Claude Code or Codex with TIA Portal?

Yes, through an MCP server. T-IA Connect, TiaCommander and TiaOpen MCP give your agent tools such as listing blocks, importing and compiling. Your agent then has to know Openness and LAD XML well enough to use them.

Coilmind works the other way round: your agent hands it the whole task over local MCP, and Coilmind does the TIA part with the same compile gate and snapshots it uses on its own.

Why do some cells say "Not stated"?

Because the vendor does not say it clearly on its own public pages. We do not fill cells from forum posts, third-party blogs or guesses. A product may well do more than its pages say; if you build one of them and a cell is out of date, tell us and we will fix it.

How often is this table checked?

Every quarter, and whenever a vendor tells us something changed. The date of the last check is under each table: 2026-10-02.
